New site: The Primal Dave

8020-nutrition6.jpg

Just a quick courtesy post to inform anybody that has followed this page that at the end of the month I will no longer be updating this page.

Between life, work and my ongoing studies I’ve decided to reshuffle a few things so that I can start to lay the ground work for future opportunities.

If you would like to continue to follow my writing and receive information on health and performance please check out my other site, The Primal Dave. I am posting almost weekly. All of my new content can be found there.

Thank you for reading. Hope to see you over on the new site.

Nutritional Poll

Just a quick poll regarding your usual nutrition plan. I follow a Paleo or Primal template most of the time (about 80-90%).

I’ve found that eating this way has improved my overall health and performance over the last 3 years. I’ve been able to maintain a good body composition with ease without the need to count calories.

Here is a quick overview of the poll categories.

Paleo or Primal

Paleo or Primal eaters try to mimic the diet of our hunter gatherer ancestors. Basically, meats, poultry, seafood, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Primal eaters include full fat diary, such as butter, yoghurt and cream into their diet.

Some (but not all) of the benefits of adopting a Paleo or Primal lifestyle are:

  • Reduce your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and most chronic degenerative diseases that affect people in the western world;
  • Improve your athletic performance;
  • Slow or reverse progression of an autoimmune disease;
  • Sleep better and have more energy throughout the day;
  • Enjoy an increased libido; and
  • Enjoy a longer, healthier, more active life.

Gluten Free

Gluten Free eaters basic eliminate all sources of gluten from their diet. This is usually the case for people who suffer from Celiac disease, which is an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine.

Currently, the only successful treatment for Celiac disease is to remove all gluten from the diet.

Vegetarian and Vegan

Vegetarianism is the practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat (red meat, poultry, seafood and the flesh of any other animal), and may also include abstention from by-products of animal slaughter.

Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet. Vegan diets are based grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Without proper supplementation, vegetarian and vegan diets by default are deficient in vitamin B12, which can only be found in animal products.

Other areas of concern are protein intake, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc, iodine, calcium and vitamin D.

I eat anything

No explanation required. These people eat whatever they want, typically following the standard western diet.
